01What the data says

Offset range on this chassis: ET-25 to ET30; width 7–9.5 inches.

Standard upgrade: 17x8.5 ET0 with 285/70R17 (33s). Fits stock height with minor rubbing at full lock; trim the fender liner and/or body-mount chop. Source: T4R.org fitment consensus, widely documented.

No-rub: 17x8 ET25 with 275/70R17. Source: same.

Anything at ET-12 or below pokes past the fender and rubs more; fine on a lifted truck, not on stock.

20-inch options exist (Limited fitment) but trade sidewall for looks on an off-road truck; the expert should say so.

Tires are the bigger decision here than wheels: All-Terrain (Falken Wildpeak A/T4W, BFG KO3, Toyo Open Country A/T III, General Grabber A/TX) vs Highway (Michelin Defender LTX M/S2, Continental TerrainContact H/T). LT-metric variants cost more and ride harder; P-metric is right for a daily-driven 4Runner.
